Abstract

Health education in family nursing plays a crucial role in the prevention and management of chronic diseases, including hypertension, particularly in the elderly. Hypertension is a common condition among the elderly and can increase the risk of complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. One of the effective interventions in managing hypertension is the implementation of a low-salt diet. Kartini Puskesmas Pematangsiantar is responsible for improving the quality of life for the elderly through appropriate health education, including the management of hypertension with a low-salt diet. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of health education in family nursing regarding a low-salt diet for elderly individuals with hypertension at Kartini Puskesmas Pematangsiantar. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design was used in this research. The respondents were elderly individuals registered at Kartini Puskesmas Pematangsiantar who had hypertension. The results of this study are expected to increase the elderly's understanding of the importance of regulating salt intake to lower blood pressure and provide more insight into preventing complications caused by hypertension. It is hoped that this education will enable the elderly to be more independent in managing a healthy diet and prevent significant hypertension increases
