Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is currently a global health threat.  Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, ineffective use of insulin or both. Diabetes mellitus can cause various complications, resulting in expensive treatment costs. Providing education to DM patients about their knowledge and perceptions about this disease is important. Where good knowledge about DM in patients can improve self-management skills to prevent complications, and the costs of treating complications can be reduced. So through health education is one method of prevention and early detection to prevent complications of diabetes mellitus. This community service aims to identify the influence of diabetes mellitus education to increase knowledge and blood glucose levels. Community service was carried out in Cinta Rakyat Village, Percut Sei Tuan District in April – June 2024 with methods of implementing service including: observation, question and answer lectures, and training with 25 participants. The evaluation results showed that the majority of knowledge values increased well after service and the majority of blood glucose levels had impaired glucose tolerance (140-200 mg/dl / 7.8-11.1 mmol/L). Providing health education about diabetes mellitus to groups or communities to prevent and control hypertension in order to achieve a perfect level of health, both physical, mental and social in the community.
