Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a child growth and development disorder resulting from chronic malnutrition and recurrent infections, characterized by height or length falling below standard benchmarks. In Indonesia, addressing stunting is a national priority; urban and coastal areas—such as Medan City, including the community service areas of Universitas Imelda Medan (UIM)—continue to face significant challenges. Family-based education delivered by nurses and midwives is crucial, yet its effectiveness hinges on how the necessary competencies are cultivated within Health Professions Education (HPE). Objective: To analyze global trends, map bibliometric data, and synthesize literature on HPE regarding the training of midwives and nurses as family-based stunting prevention educators, in order to formulate local curriculum recommendations for Universitas Imelda Medan. Methods: This study employed a mixed secondary research design combining bibliometric analysis (using VOSviewer and R-Bibliometrix) with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Data were extracted from the Scopus and PubMed databases, covering publications from 2011 to 2026. Results: Research publications on HPE related to stunting show a sustained upward trend. Keyword analysis (co-occurrence network) categorized the literature into key clusters: Interprofessional Education (IPE), Community-Based Health Education, and Family-Centered Care. The SLR synthesis confirmed that community-engaged learning, interprofessional simulation, and training in culturally contextual communication significantly enhance the competence of stunting educators. Conclusion: Global scientific evidence supports the need to reorient midwifery and nursing curricula toward IPE and community-based learning models to produce effective stunting educators at the local level
